About

Vu Nguyen is currently a professional still life photographer based in New York City, who also came from a diverse range of disciplines based primarily in cinematography and media engineering.

Vu's personal work engages in the the lucid idea of cultural longing and reminisces on the backdrop of an exilic sense of place. he draws the inspiration from his own experience in dealing with constant shifting cultural adjustment, assimilation, and eventual exile - of existing on the edge and not truly belonging anywhere.

Vu is deeply driven in the tactility in various analog processes, from 19th century wet plate collodion to modern chromogenic prints. Vu believes the tactility and tangibility nature informs his work as a way to materialize the elusive and ephemeral state of longing for a place to exist.

Vu's personal body of work resides mostly in the medium of photography and some other alternative photographic processes, but he's also well engaged with woodworking, motion pictures, and interactive site-specific installations.
